Content in Author-it is broken into reusable components called Topics - individual pieces like a procedure, a warning, or a concept. These Topics are assembled into Books (deliverables like user guides or training manuals) and stored in a central Library. When a Topic is updated, the change flows to every Book that uses it.
No. Author-it provides structured authoring without requiring DITA or XML knowledge. Authors work in a familiar editing environment while the platform handles the structure behind the scenes. This means faster adoption and a lower barrier to entry for non-technical writers and subject matter experts.
Single-source publishing means writing content once and publishing it to multiple formats and channels from that single source. In Author-it, a Topic can appear in a PDF user guide, an HTML5 help portal, a SCORM eLearning module, and an AI-ready JSON output - all without reauthoring or reformatting.
Author-it's translation management only sends new or changed content for translation - not entire documents. This dramatically reduces translation costs and turnaround times. Content is managed at the component level, so translators work on small, focused units rather than re-translating whole deliverables.

AION is Author-it's AI-ready output format, launched in 2026.R1. It publishes any book in your Author-it library as structured JSON - including the full content hierarchy, resolved text content, topic IDs and template types, last modified timestamp and author, library folder path, and variable values used in the publish job. A Library Administrator sets up an AION publishing profile once. After that, authors publish to AION exactly as they would to PDF or HTML - by selecting the profile and clicking publish. No content restructuring is required.
No. Author-it's structured authoring and metadata are built in - not added by a third-party semantic layer. The content type, provenance, and hierarchy that AI systems need are generated automatically by the platform and included in AION output by default. Some CCMS vendors partner with knowledge graph or ontology products to add AI-readiness on top of their native output. Author-it doesn't need that layer because the structure was designed in from the beginning.
Every content object in Author-it carries three layers of metadata. Intrinsic metadata is generated automatically: modification history, authorship, content type, topic ID, and library folder path. Designed metadata cascades from structural decisions - when a template is defined as a Warning or a Task, that classification applies to every topic created from it. Deliberate metadata includes taxonomy values, domain classifications, and applicability tags applied by authors and administrators. All three layers travel with the content when AION publishes.
