CCMS stands for Component Content Management System. A true CCMS, like Author-it, is a relational database with content broken down and stored in components. This variant architecture is highly searchable and robust due to the granularity of the content being managed, which means you can store and easily manage large volumes of content without losing control of your documentation. With Author-it you can manage components, workflows, content reuse, translation and localization, and more in our built-in CCMS.

Unlike many solutions, we offer a true end-to-end authoring, content management, localization and publishing solution on one collaborative platform. Our technology differs from DITA and XML-only solutions in that it supports both structured and unstructured authoring, allowing both technical and non-technical users to contribute with or without writing code.

Additionally, while some companies advertise a built-in CCMS, often they’re file-based, meaning only one person can work on it at a time and content is overwritten. While DITA and XML solutions are technically CCMS, they’re really just a repository of code.

Author-it’s multi-channel publishing system supports a wide variety of outputs, including but not limited to:

  • HTML5 support sites
  • Web Help
  • Scorm
  • xAPI
  • PDF
  • HTML
  • XML
  • DITA
  • Word

Author-it provides a rich and powerful editor specifically designed for single-source authoring.
It is impossible to provide a WYSIWYG editor if content components will be reused in more than one output or format – PDF or web, for example.

Author-it provides an ‘approximate view’ view in the editing environment, and the internal UI ‘stylesheet’ can be configured to match desired styles.

Yes, you can easily create workflows on your own, or our trusty implementation team can set them up for you upon delivery.

Author-it makes it easy to control authoring standards when you’re working in a team:

  • All Author-it components, such as common topics and styles, can be shared, so everyone uses the same standards.
  • Author-it enables you to specify different security permissions for different users. So only specific users can create or change the templates that control how your document appears.
  • To achieve consistency, text formatting can only be achieved by applying styles. So once you set up your standard styles, everyone must use them.

No, Author-it manages standard document services such as indexing for searches, version control, workflows, security, and access control.

No, Author-it also provides On Premises solutions. However, our cloud solutions are more feature-rich than OP, receive automated updates, and are easier to maintain.

Yes. Consulting services are available, but not included with the standard subscription. These services include data migration, training, template customization, macro development and approval, and publishing profile customization.
