Book Index

Version 4.1.447 (19-Jan-2004)

The following issues have been resolved in this build:

  • Find and Replace gave incorrect/inconsistent results, including:
    • Not finding correctly - this problem was caused by the Search Index not being updated correctly when saving a Topic that contained no Topic text. The new Administrator function, Maintenance > Reindex Search will fix this problem.
  • When saving a Topic that contained an embedded Topic which ended in a table with an empty last cell, Author-it hung.
  • Extended ASCII characters were not being displayed correctly within the Topic editor in the Related Groups tab.
  • Creating a New Version of a File Object and making it Active did not update any objects using it as the icon for a Related Topic Group. Topic Templates that have Related Topic Groups that point to these File Objects (i.e. the Next, Previous, Contents, Home and Index groups) will need to be updated manually to point to these new File objects.
  • When deleting an autotext entry (header or footer) an error occured.
  • Changing a File Object from embedded to linked now creates a linked file from the embedded information correctly.
  • Release State review colors now only display the 16 colors that Word uses for the default colors.
  • Embedding a Topic (by dragging and dropping it) now leaves the cursor at the end of the embedded Topic.
  • When editing a table, holding down CTRL while resizing the columns could cause an error.
  • When displaying the right click popup menu within the Topic text, if the selection point is within a spelling mistake, only the spelling menu was displayed.
  • When creating an offline library, external files that were referenced using an absolute path (rather than a relative path) weren't included with the offline library.
  • When editing a Style object on the HTML > Borders tab, modifying the Top, Bottom, Left or Right values by typing didn't enable the Apply button.
  • If a user had permission to create a new version of an object, but didn't have permission to edit it, they were incorrectly prevented from doing so.
  • When upgrading a SQL Server 7.0 library, the error 900 is the maximum allowable size of an index was displayed. Libraries in later versions of SQL Server did not hit this restriction.
  • Dragging and dropping multiple Topics into a Book table of contents didn't always add the Topics in the correct order.
  • Dragging and dropping a Topic into a Book table of contents, under a Glossary didn't sort correctly. The sorting was case sensitive so capital and lower case letters didn't sort together.
  • The Remove Hyperlink popup menu didn't appear when the anchor text was only one character long.
  • When two new Media objects were created the "additional files" field was not cleared in between.
  • The next and previous topic buttons in the Book Editor incorrectly saved Topics without prompting.
  • Invalid objects could be dragged and dropped into the Book table of contents.
  • When using the Book Editor (as opposed to the Book Object) duplicating an Object did not offer to add it to the Book.
  • In the Localization Manager, trying to unpack the same update twice gave an error.
  • The Project Manager was not linked to the correct help file.
  • The remove button on a Hypertext link window was enabled even when a hypertext link was not selected.
  • When performing a spelling check, the Ignore All option wasn't remembered between topics.
  • The File Object > WinHelp > Linking > Hypertext Link field was not saving. This field could (can) also be set on the HTML tab.
  • Selecting multiple paragraphs and applying sentence case didn't work as expected.
  • Selecting Cancel when doing a Find and Replace on the whole library caused an error.
  • When importing Media Objects from another Library, Headers and Footers were not imported.
  • When importing Topic Templates from another Library, Related Topic data didn't import correctly.
  • When importing styles from another Library an error could occur.
  • When importing:
    • EMF and WMF files didn't import correctly.
  • When importing from a Word document:
    • Linked GIFs were not imported.
    • Topics mapped to the No Heading Template were saved with a Heading. However, reapplying the Template fixed the problem.
    • Any text in a frame was merged with the next paragraph.
  • When importing HTML:
    • Hypertext links containing semicolons import (incorrectly) as multiple separate destinations.
    • Text in the same paragraph as pictures could be lost.
    • Paragraphs surrounded by anchor tags were imported as bold.
  • When exporting a Jet library to SQL Server 7 the following error occured:

900 is the maximum size of an index. The composite index specified is 1024 bytes (Error 1903).

  • Bulleted lists were not resetting numbered lists at lower outline levels. This situation now publishes correctly, however the editor still displays incorrectly.
  • When exporting Objects XML in Italy, invalid XML was created because the local date time format was being used and this created the date/time in the format 2003-12-03T10.23.50 instead of 2003-12-03T10:23:50
  • When publishing to Word or HTML (but not WinHelp) a Topic containing two embedded Topics which contained tables that should have joined together, the tables had a gap between them.
  • When publishing to WinHelp or Word (but not HTML) numbering continued through table cells.
  • When publishing to all outputs:
    • Variables of type File Object that did not have a File Object set created an @ character in its place.
    • Nested variables (i.e. a variable that resolves to text containing another variable) didn't resolve if the first variable had a character style applied.
    • When using a Localization Target library, external files that weren't initially created in the main library were not found when publishing.
  • When publishing to Word:
    • Tables that contained borders, but didn't have a border on the leftmost side, were having the table indented to the level of the preceding paragraph.
    • File Objects linking to external Word Documents could cause an error trying to update fields in these external documents.
    • Hypertext links with certain settings (enclose in brackets, include heading if different and don't show page numbers) could end up with empty brackets following the hypertext link anchor text.
    • Page numbering was not always being set correctly from the Media object.
    • A hypertext link that was set not to appear in Word incorrectly removed character formatting from the anchor text.
    • If the target of a hypertext link was a UNC path and filename (i.e. \\My Server\Docs\My Word.doc) the hypertext link didn't work.
    • Mini table of contents now use the full Topic heading as a hypertext link, previously, only the page number was used.
  • When publishing to WinHelp:
    • Extended ASCII characters were being replaced by question marks (?) in related topics, heading and hypertext links. This mostly affected non-English/European languages that have additional characters in their alphabets.
    • No browse buttons appeared after customizing the Topic Template.
    • Some graphics that were imported into the library displayed as an @ symbol.
    • If the last style in the Library (sorted alphabetically) contained a winhelp tab, an error displayed. The error stated that "The object you are trying to access has been deleted from the library. This can occur when another user has deleted the object." In fact, no objects are missing, the error message is misleading.
  • When publishing to HTML:
    • The new DHTML search function didn't work when searching for extended ASCII characters.
    • If a Topic ended in a Table and the paragraph after the table was a paragraph style set not to appear in HTML then an additional paragraph appeared within the table.
    • HTML templates containing <aitdata> didn't work unless the placeholder was on its own line.
    • Netscape and Opera didn't like the way we used span tags in bulleted and numbered lists. These have been removed.
    • Meta tags were not added to HTML if a custom HTML template was used.
    • The Related Topics "Next Topic" and "Previous Topic" are now interpreted as "Next Page" and "Previous Page".
    • An empty heading could cause an error while publishing the index.
    • Em dash (—) and en dash (–) characters were incorrectly replaced with quotes.
    • Index entries that targeted other index entries didn't appear.
    • Style tags were added to the head section of each page to support hover colors. This has been changed to create a cascading style sheet (css) file for each Media object that does not have an HTML template set.
    • If the TOC was set to appear in a different window (not frameset) an incorrect URL was being used.
  • When publishing to JavaHelp:
    • Paragraph spacing settings were ignored.
    • Some computers were unable to view the published output.
    • Images were not displaying with the correct size.
    • The index was blank if it contained only one index entry.

The following new features have been added in this build:

  • You may now multi select Objects and (from the right click context menu) select Set Variable Assignment... and then the Variable to set variable assignments on multiple objects at the same time.
  • In the Book Editor (and Book Object) the right click pop-up menu now displays the Show Relationships on the main Book node.
