Unpacking Updates

Each update file (named Localization Name_#.zip) contains an Author-it library and the accompanying external files. A new update file is created each time the Create Update function is run. This file is unpacked automatically when working in the Source Library.

When you don't have access to the Source Library and only work with a Target Library, you will be sent the (zipped) update file. You'll then need to unpack the update which extracts the files and recreates the folder structure.

The process is slightly different for the first update received, as it also becomes the Target Library.

To Unpack the First Update:

  1. Start the Localization Manager.
  2. When the Open Library window appears, choose Cancel.

    Cancel to Opening a Library

  3. Choose File > Unpack Update... from the main menu. This option is not available when a library is open.

The Select a File window appears

  4. Locate and select the zipped update file, then choose Open.

The Target Library is created and the first update is extracted. The folder structure is created relative to the Library path defined in Author-it under Tools > Options > File Locations.

As additional updates are created and received, these must also be unpacked. The process is slightly different, as the Target Library has already been created.

To Unpack Subsequent Updates:

  1. Open the Target Library
  2. Select the Updates folder

    Select Updates Folder

  3. Choose the Unpack update button button on the main toolbar

    -or-

Right click and choose Unpack Update

The Select a File window appears

  4. Locate and select the zipped update file, then choose Open

    The Update is extracted.
