Creating Library Updates

From time to time it will be necessary to update Target libraries to ensure that they get the benefits of any new content and modifications to the existing content.

Localization Manager creates a Library Update from the Source Library which is then compared to the Target Library using the Compare Update utility. New or modified content is identified, and can be accepted or declined by the Localization Coordinator. The content is then synchronized in the Target Library.

To Create a Library Update:

  1. Open the Source Library with Localization Manager
  2. Select the Updates folder for the corresponding Localization.
  3. Choose the Create Update Button button on the main toolbar

    -or-

Choose Localizations > Create Update from the main menu

    -or-

    Right-click and choose Create Update

    Create Update

  4. A subfolder is created under the folder defined in the Localization properties, containing the Localization Update. Files in this folder should not be changed or moved. These files act as a snapshot of the Source library at the point the Update is created and are used by the Compare Update utility to identify new and modified content between updates.

Each update creates its own folder. For example French_2, French_3, and so on.

  5. If the Target Library is being administered at an external site (for example, if you are working with a localization vendor, or have multiple branches each responsible for their own Localization), you'll need to send them the zipped update file found in the new update folder. They can then unpack the update, and use the Compare Update utility to synchronize contents.
