Step 7 - Install the Client Components on Each Computer

Each person who needs to work with Author-it must have the Author-it program files installed on their computer. You must do this separately at each computer, after you have installed the shared server components.

Author-it's locally-stored client files are:

• Author-it executable (Workgroup Edition or Enterprise Edition).
• Help files.
• Language dictionaries.
• HTML TOC Images
• Windows Help Compiler files.
• HTML Help Compiler files.

After you have prepared the installation on your server, you are ready to install Author-it onto your client machines.

Note: This process can be automated by customizing the installation settings file. If the process has been automated you will not see the following prompts as the process already has all the information it needs to run the install.

To Install Author-it V4 Client Components

1. Close all other Windows programs. This lets Author-it update essential components which are shared by other programs.
2. Browse the server and locate the setup file called netsetup.exe located in the Author-it V4 folder.
3. Run netsetup.exe to begin the installation process. The client setup confirmation screen appears. Choose Next to continue.

   

4. The Setup Wizard shows you the location of the setup files on the server, and the location of where Author-it will be installed on your PC. After you have confirmed these suggested settings, choose Next to continue.

   

   The Select Author-it Components window appears.

   

5. Choose the components that you are entitled to use and enter their appropriate serial numbers. Choose Next to continue.

   Note: Evaluation versions of the optional modules (Project Manager, Offline Authoring, and the MIF Import Filter) are included by default, and can be installed by entering eval as the serial number.
   To install a licensed version of the Project Manager or MIF Import filter, you'll first need to download the corresponding setup files from the Customer Area and copy these to the Setup folder on your server.

   

6. When you have completed all of the required steps choose Next to begin the installation process.

   

7. Progress is shown as the components are installed

   

8. Choose Finish to exit the Setup program.
9. You may be prompted at this time as to whether you wish to have the PC rebooted. It is recommended that you let the PC reboot.

Congratulations, Author-it is now installed on your client PC.
