Customizing Your Styles Toolbar

Your styles toolbar appears at the top of the Topic Editor when you're working with a topic, and lets you quickly format text by applying styles at the click of a button.

You can customize this toolbar to suit your needs by adding and removing styles as required. You can also assign keyboard shortcuts, and change the icon on the button to easily identify which style it is associated with.

To Customize the Styles Toolbar, choose Tools > Styles Toolbar from the main menu, or double-click just to the right of the Styles Toolbar from within a topic.

To Add a Style to the Styles Toolbar

  1. From the Toolbar Styles list on the right, select the style directly above the position where you want your new style to appear.
  2. From the All styles list on the left, select the style you want to add to the toolbar. You can also add a "(separator)" to put a space between buttons on the toolbar.
  3. Choose the > button. The style now appears in the Toolbar Styles list on the right, directly below the style you selected earlier.
  4. Save your changes by choosing the OK button.

To Remove a Style From the Styles Toolbar

  1. From the Toolbar Styles list on the right, select the Style whose button you want to remove from the toolbar.
  2. Choose the < button. The Style's name appears in the All Styles list on the left.
  3. Save your changes by choosing the OK button.

To Change a Button's Icon

  1. From the Toolbar Styles list, select the Style whose button you want to change.
  2. Choose the Icon button. The Select Picture window appears.
  3. Choose an icon or bitmap picture to represent the Style.
  4. Save your changes by choosing the OK button.

To Assign a Keyboard Shortcut to a Style

You can apply styles to text using the keyboard, as well as with the Styles Toolbar.

  1. From the Toolbar Styles listed, select the style for which you want to add a keyboard shortcut.
  2. Put your cursor in the Press New Shortcut Key field.
  3. Press the keys you want to use as a shortcut.
  4. Choose the Assign button. The shortcut key combination appears next to the Style's name in the Toolbar Styles list.
  5. Save your changes by choosing the OK button.
