Creating Printed Booklets

We've been asked recently about Author-it's ability to create booklets - for example, where you can automatically print 4 x A5 pages numbered in the correct sequence onto one A4 sheet (i.e. double-sided) so that they can then be folded together to form a booklet.

While some of the dedicated "Print" and desktop publishing tools (such as MS Publisher) include this functionality as part of the software, this can be handled just as effectively by a print driver.

We've identified a Windows printer driver "FinePrint" that provides this capability. Not only does it give you the capability of creating Booklets, it also offers many other features. As it acts as an intermediary between any application with a print function and a Windows-compatible printer, it will even allow you to print directly to a PDF writer.

You can read more about it and/or download a trial version from the FinePrint website. The trial version does not have a time limit but prints an advertisement at the bottom of each sheet and has an 8 page limit per print job. Price is very reasonable - US $49.95.

We have downloaded and tested this with Author-it and it works very well. It has a friendly Printer Wizard that even steps you through your first job to ensure that the settings are correct!
