Which Graphic Format Should I Use?

Answer

Which graphic format you choose really depends on the nature of your graphics - such as the quality/colors used, and the output types you use (Word/HTML etc).

Everyone can have their own preference - a search on the Internet for the phrase GIF vs JPG will return many results.

JPEGs are best used for photos and graphics with a large number of colors – especially where these colors blend into one another. GIFs are good for images with large flat areas of color (such as logos, and cartoon-like graphics).

The JPEG format allows you to save images with millions of colors, whereas the GIF format is limited to 256 colors.

Consider file size as well – particularly if distributing your HTML pages over the Internet where download time can frustrate your viewers.
