Inserting a Graphic Which Already Has a File Object

When the graphic you're inserting already has a File object in your Library, you can simply tell Author-it to insert that File in your topic.

Tip

You can use drag and drop to insert a File object in the topic text. Just drag a File object from either the Object Search or the contents of a Book into the topic text.

To Insert an Existing File

  1. In the Topic Editor, put the cursor where you want the graphic to appear.
  2. From the Topic Editor toolbar (not the Object toolbar), choose the Insert File Object Button button, or from the Book Editor menu bar, choose Insert > File Object. The Select a File Object window appears.

    Select an Object

  3. From the tree at the top of the window, select the Library Folder containing the File you want to use.
  4. From the list at the bottom of the window, select the File you want to use. If you have the Preview option turned on, you'll see the contents of the File in the Preview pane.
  5. Choose OK. The File is inserted in your topic.
  6. Save the changes to your topic.
