New HTML Frameset

A new Custom DHTML Frameset and associated files are now included with Author-it, incorporating a banner frame and DHTML Search

Custom DHTML Frameset

All libraries created from the Default (A4).adl or Default (Letter).adl Library templates distributed with version 4.5.604 (or later), use the new Custom DHTML Frameset by default and have had the media objects and styles adjusted accordingly.

Libraries created prior to 4.5.604 can still take advantage of these new files (which are copied to your Templates > Custom DHTML Frameset folder when the update is run). All you need to do is make a few small modifications.

Important: The external HTML file that makes up the banner frame uses an Author-it variable to bring in the Book Description. Variables in external HTML files are only supported in the Enterprise edition. If you are using Workgroup or Desktop, the banner will be empty.

We recommend you create a new Book template, but alternatively you can modify your existing User Guide or DHTML User Guide Template as follows:

To create a new Book Template

  1. Create a new Book Object Template
  2. Base the new Book Template on User Guide Template
  3. Base the new Book Template on (none)

Note: This is just a quick way to fill in the properties of a Book object without basing an Object on a Template.

  4. On the General tab, check the box Make this object an object template
  5. Give the Book a name.

Important: Do this after you've made it a template otherwise the template name is added to the HTML Title and all your books will use the template name.

  6. Then on the HTML tab:

    Custom HTML Frameset Book Template

Under Associated Files, set the Frameset Template to use ..\Templates\Custom DHTML Frameset\html_frameset.htm

Under Associated Files, select the following additional files from the ..\Templates\Custom DHTML Frameset folder:

    Custom DHTML Frameset Additional Files

  7. Save and close the new Book Template Object.
  8. Open the Media object Contents Section. On the HTML tab, set the HTML template to use ..\Templates\Custom DHTML Frameset\toc_template.htm.
  9. Open the Media object Index Section. On the HTML tab, set the HTML template to use ..\Templates\Custom DHTML Frameset\index_template.htm.
