Translation OverrideEach localization is stored in a separate Author-it library known as a target library. The Author-it Localization Manager controls the flow of information (new and modified content) from the source library to the target libraries, and manages the translation of that content. Target libraries are essentially created as a copy of the source library. New content is moved from the source library to the target library, and then sent for translation. The translated content is imported back into the target library, updating the topic. The translation process includes the following steps:
The memory tools used by the translation vendor store previously translated segments of content in a database. The database is essentially a repository for all the chunks of content that have been translated, and is used as a comparison point when new content is received for translation. When translating a document, the tools identify the new content, or find and retrieve similar matches of these topic segments. If an exact match is found the translation memory returns the topic, as there was no difference or variation between the two segments. From time to time you may be aware that a translation is inaccurate and requires correction, even though the source content has not changed. Because the translation memory is applied to the source automatically, the content will still be considered an exact match. Using the Author-it Localization Manager wizard you can flag a topic for specific review and re-translation - this is referred to as Translation Override. When Translation Override is used, the source content for the topic is returned to the translation vendor with plain text comments providing information necessary for the problem to be corrected. The translator is able to identify the flagged topics from the Translation Job XML and ensure they are re-translated rather than just processed from translation memory. Note: When topics are sent for re-translation using the Select Objects to Retranslate step the translation job only contains the topics that are being returned for correction.
