The Components of a Project

Creating a document in Author-it is like building with Lego bricks - you construct your document from many smaller pieces, which are called "objects". There are different types of object which have different functions (like a Lego roofing tile or a corner brick).

Creating a Project in Author-it Project Manager is much the same. You work with a number of different entities that make up your Project:

Summary Tasks:

Tasks that are made up of a logical group of related tasks, usually representing a common phase of your Project.

Tasks:

The "Building Blocks" that make up the Project. Each task is a distinct and single piece of work that is required to complete the Project.

Prerequisite and Dependent Tasks:

A task that cannot start or finish until another task has been completed.

Milestone:

Milestones are used to mark a particular stage of progression of your Project, and have a zero duration period.
