Modular Products

You can easily use multiple Books in Author-it to achieve modularity:

For example: you have two different software products, A and B. You release three different versions of your software product:

  1. A only.
  2. B only.
  3. A and B.

The "trick" is simply to make a different Book for each of these cases, which all contain shared components (Topics). When you update the topics, each Book is updated (the beauty of object-oriented single-sourcing). Author-it lets you nest books, so you can create a Book for A, a Book for B and drag them both into another Book containing A and B. Author-it will automatically include hyperlinks from A to B, and B to A, but only if A and B both exist in the same Book. Finally, publish a Help file from each Book and supply the correct Help file with each release configuration of the software.
