Placeholder Types

During the process of creating a webpage Author-it Website Manager substitutes placeholders in the template with content or functionality defined in the placeholder substitution rules. Placeholders are created using one of the following options chosen from the Type field:

  • HTML File - used to include additional content (either text or graphics) in your webpage from an HTML page stored in the Author-it Website Manager Content folder. Author-it Website Manager extracts the content between the body tags in the nominated page and substitutes it with the placeholder.
  • Author-it Website Manager Function - the function placeholder is most commonly used to build the functionality defined for the placeholder into the webpage.
  • Text - used to substitute small amounts of text where ever the placeholder is found. This can be used for page titles, slogans or adding small sections of information to header or footer fields.
  • Remote URL - the URL placeholder is used to display content from an external website and display it in your webpage, wrapped in your experience's look and feel).
  • HTML Content - used to add additional text to a page by entering the specific HTML code (text and HTML tags).
