Adding Objects to the Contents

When you add an object to the contents of a Book or an Index, you establish a relationship between the Book or Index and the object. Only certain types of object can be added:

  • Only Index Entries can be added to the contents of an Index.
  • Title Page, Table of Contents, Table of Figures, file object, Topic, Glossary, and Index objects can be added to the contents of a Book.

To Add an Object to the Contents of a Book or Index

  1. Open the Book or Index you want to add an object to, and ensure you can see the Book Contents or Index Entries tab.
  2. Select an existing object to add, or create a new object.
    • Select an object from the Library Explorer or from the Contents of another Book or Index, then drag and drop it into the Contents. If you're adding an Index Entry to the Index Contents, the Entry is automatically placed in alphabetical order, no matter where you drop it. If you're working with a Book's Contents, drop onto the object in the Contents immediately above the place you want to add the new object. If you drop the object anywhere blank in the Contents, it will be inserted at the end of the Contents.
    • Create the new object, the object is immediately added to the book contents below the selected object in the Book Contents, or in alphabetical order if it is an Index Entry.

Tip: To add an Index Entry as a sub-entry of another Index Entry, hold the ALT key down while you drag and drop onto the Entry you want to contain your new one.

  3. Save your changes to the Book or Index.
