Publishing a Book

When you're ready to publish your document, simply tell Author-it to publish the output formats you need. You may do this several times during the process of creating a document, while you make changes to the document after review. Overall, though, you will spend far more time creating and editing your document than publishing its outputs.

To Publish a Selected Document:

  1. From the Library Explorer, right-click a book and choose Publish To, then the output type.

    -OR-

From the Book Editor menu, choose Publish > Publish To, then the output type.

    -OR-

From the Author-it main menu, choose Publish > Publish To, then the output type to publish the currently open Book. This option is disabled if there is no book open.

  2. Progress is shown as Author-it publishes the selected Book to the chosen output type.

The whole process may take anywhere from seconds to tens of minutes, depending on the size and complexity of your document and the performance of your computer. As the Author-it Publisher is a separate application, you can continue working while the Publisher runs in the background.

Note: The Publisher works on the concept of publishing jobs. When you submit a job, the Publisher is launched to process that job. While it is publishing, you can submit further jobs which are added to a queue. Once the Publisher finishes the current job, the next job in the queue is started.

To Publish Multiple Documents or Multiple Outputs:

  1. From the Author-it main menu, choose Publish > In Batch...

    -or-

From the main toolbar, click the Publish Book Icon button.

    -or-

From the Author-it main menu, choose Publish > Start Author-it Publisher, then click the Publish... button.

  2. The Publish window appears, displaying a list of the Books in your Library, and the output formats in which you can publish them. You can select to display all books, or only books you have published recently.

Tip: To open a Book from inside the Publisher window, simply double-click on the Book's name.

  3. For each Book, select the outputs you want to publish by making sure their checkbox is ticked.
  4. To minimize Author-it during publishing, select Minimize During Publishing. Publishing takes longer when Author-it is minimized, but it will free up resources to use your computer for other tasks at the same time.
  5. Choose Start to begin publishing. Author-it will publish the selected Books. Progress is shown for each Book.

Note: You can cancel the publishing process at any time by choosing the Stop button. It may take a few seconds before a confirmation message appears. Just answer Yes to stop publishing at that point.
