How Do I Add a Flash File?

Often you'll want to add things like graphics or charts to visually display information in a presentation. To really add impact to a presentation you can add a Flash file like this:

First, you'll need to create the Flash file and an HTML file to call the Flash file outside of Author-it.

Then you simply create a File object in Author-it which links to the HTML file and references the Flash (.swf) file as an additional file. During publishing the HTML code resolves and the Flash file is added. It is also copied to the publishing folder so it can be included with your HTML files when you distribute them or upload them to your webserver.

To add a flash file using a file object

  1. Create your Flash and HTML file with the tool of your choice.
  2. Open Author-it and create a new File object based on the Linked HTML Code File template.
  3. On the HTML tab click on the ellipses button ellipses button next to the Filename field. Navigate to the folder containing the .htm file, select the file and click on the Open button.

    Select the .htm file

  4. On the Linked HTML subtab click on the arrow button add files next to the additional files field. Click on the Add button and navigate to the folder containing the Flash file.
