Importing from Another Library

Sometimes you will want to use an object or objects from another Author-it library. The Import from Another Library feature lets you do this easily, and it even reminds you which related objects you may need to import.

To Import Objects from Another Library

  1. From the Import menu chose From an Author-it Library. The Select a File window appears for you to select the Library from which to import the objects.
  2. Select an Author-it Library and choose Open.
If you have Author-it's Automatic Login option turned on, the library opens immediately – go to step 4 now.

Otherwise, the Library Login window appears.

    Library Login Dialog

  3. Type your user name and password and choose Login. The Import Objects window appears.

  4. Select from the drop-down list the type of object you want to import, then choose Objects or Templates from the Show in List option.

Note: Some objects cannot be imported. You cannot import an object template with the same name as an existing object template, and you cannot import a Style object with the same name as a existing Style object.

  5. Select the objects you want to import, then click the > button, or to import all the objects, click the >> button.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all the objects you want to import are listed on the right side of the window.
  7. Next, you need to import any other objects which the selected objects use. Choose the Dependencies tab.

  8. Choose the Show Dependencies button. Author-it calculates all the dependencies for the objects appearing in the right pane and displays them in the left pane.
  9. Select the related objects you want to import, then click the > button, or to import all the related objects, click the >> button.

Note: You do not have to import the related objects. If you do not import a related object, Author-it will try to find a match in the existing Library to replace it. If a match cannot be found, the relationship is removed and you will have to choose a new relationship.

  10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 until you have selected all the related objects you want to import.
  11. Once you are ready to import the selected objects, choose Import. Author-it imports all the objects selected. If Author-it encounters a problem importing any object it is displayed.
    • To import that object and continue the import process, choose OK in the object window.
    • To cancel the import process, choose Cancel in the object window, then choose No when prompted to continue with the import.
  12. Once all the objects have been imported you are returned to the Import Object window. Choose Cancel to close the window.
