The <dita_topic_type> variable

To enable the correct DITA topic type to be determined by the transformation application, a variable must be created in the Author-it library. Variables cannot be created by importing XML so this variable must be created using the Author-it Administrator.

To Create the <dita_topic_type> Variable

1. Start Author-it Administrator and open your library.
2. From the main menu choose Variables > Maintain Variables.

   The Variables window appears.

   

3. Choose the Add button.

   The Variable default settings window appears.

   

   Create a List of Values type variable with the following values:

   • topic
   • task
   • concept
   • reference

   The default value should be topic.

4. Choose OK to save the variable.

This variable should then be assigned to the DITA topic templates with the following values:
