Microsoft Word Publish

During publishing of your Printed output, these values control how often the Word document is saved and closed. Word can run out of memory, particularly with complex or very long documents. Author-it saves the document each time the number of topics you have published reaches a multiple of the Save Frequency you specify. To free up memory, Author-it also closes the document and reopens it, each time the number of Save operations reaches a multiple of the Close Frequency you specify.

These are the default values for these fields. You should only change them if you have problems publishing a Word document - start by making the Close Frequency smaller.

  • Save frequency = 20
  • Close frequency = 10
Publish Folder Structure

Specifies the structure of the sub-directories of your Publish directory.

  • Publish Type / Book Name - Author-it creates a sub-folder for each output type, then inside each of those a sub-folder with the name of the book being published.
  • Book Name / Publish Type - Author-it creates a sub-folder with the name of each book being published, then inside that a sub-folder for each output type.
Duplicate Embedded Picture Search

When you save a topic after inserting a picture or OLE object into it, Author-it can search all existing embedded pictures and OLE objects to see if the picture or OLE object already exists in the Library. This cuts down on duplicate information in your Library, but makes saving embedded pictures slower, especially in large Libraries.

Enable Offline Library

Check this box to enable an Offline Library. When enabled a special folder Offline Folder Icon is added to your library.

Note: This option is only available in the Author-it Workgroup or Enterprise Editions.

Performance

Use the Performance slider to adjust the speed with which Author-it opens windows. You can tell Author-it to open each window you work with faster, but this will use more memory.

  • For faster performance but more drain on memory, set Performance to Fast.
  • For slower performance but less drain on memory, set Performance to Slow. Use this setting if you regularly run into problems with lack of free memory while using Author-it.
