The Lock Book Contents Option

A number of people (including experienced Author-it users) have been caught out recently by having inadvertently enabling the Lock Book Contents function - a function that many people are not even aware exists.

The Lock Book Contents option is designed to protect against accidental changes to the Book structure - and is ideal if you're one of those people that is prone to leaning on their keyboard or have a mouse that just won't behave. When enabled, you cannot make any changes to the Book structure. You cannot add, remove promote or demote topics.

If you've turned it on unawares, it can leave you scratching your head as you wonder why you've just created eight new topics but none of them is appearing in your Book. Or why, when no other users are logged in, you still cannot move any topics...

To Lock (or Unlock) Book Contents

• Choose the button on the Book Editor toolbar.

• Choose View > Book Contents Locked from the Book Editor menu.
