Should I Manage the Localization Project In-house or Outsource It?

Whether you:

  1. manage the entire project and translation in-house,
  2. manage the project in-house but outsource the translation, or
  3. share the project with a localization vendor and have them manage the translation,

will all depend on the resources, budget, time constraints, and expertise you have available.

Consider first the role of the Localization Coordinator. This is the person (or group) in charge of coordinating the translation, and managing the updates to translated content.

Whichever option you choose, it is important that the Localization Coordinator gives priority to the localization. While they may have other duties, particularly if the project is managed in-house, these duties should come second to their localization responsibilities.
