Step 1 - Installing Author-it On Administrator's Computer

Before you install Author-it on each client computer, you'll need to setup the shared server-based components including Library databases and various templates are installed on the server, and install Author-it on the Administrator's computer.

To Install Author-it:

  1. Close all other Windows programs. This lets Author-it update essential components which are shared by other programs.
  2. Run the Author-it Setup program to begin the installation process. The setup confirmation screen opens. Choose Next to continue.

  3. Choose I Agree to accept the End User License, then choose Next to continue.

  4. The Select Installation Folder window opens. The Setup Wizard shows you the location where Author-it will be installed on your computer. Use the suggested settings, or browse to another location.

    • Choose Disk Cost... to display the available disk space in the location where Author-it is to be installed

      Select how Author-it will be installed for people using this computer:

    • Choose Everyone to make Author-it available for all users with access to the computer
    • Choose Just me to make the installation of Author-it available to you only

      Choose Next to continue.

  5. When you have completed all of the required steps choose Next to begin the installation process.

  6. Progress is shown as the components are installed

  7. Choose Close to exit the Setup program.

    Installation Complete

Congratulations, Author-it is now installed.

To complete the installation you must:

  • Install Author-it on the client machines (updating pathways for shared components to the correct locations),
  • Create a new library or upgrade an existing library, and
  • Assign the license to the Library.
