Web Help Performance and Scalability

The Web Help templates use a client-side search. In order to obtain the information required the contents of the Web Help topics are downloaded and stored in the browser's working memory. This action is completed when the user first accesses the help content.

During the time the content is being processed the user may find their browser becomes unresponsive. The time taken to process the content depends on the size of the help, the performance of the browser (this may be more noticeable when using Firefox), and the specifications of the user's computer.

If the time taken to process the client-side search becomes an issue we recommend moving from the Web Help templates to Aspect which uses a server-side search.
