Updating the Web Help Variables

The published output uses the following variables, however, you only need to update the values if you are enabling the send feedback and edit topic in Author-it Live options.

Variable

Value

<Web_Help_Feedback_Email>

Add the email address you want feedback emails to be sent to.

<Web_Help_Live_Server_Url>

Add the URL used by your installation of Author-it Live.

<Web_Help_Live_Server_Alias>

Add the library alias used by your Author-it Live library.

The variables are created in Author-it Administrator and must be updated before the associated options can be used.

  • Feedback

    Update the feedback variable when you want to enable the Send feedback option in your Web Help.

  • Author-it Live

    Update both of the Live variables when you want to enable Web Help users to edit the topics in Author-it Live. (Note: You must have Author-it Live installed.)

In Author-it the values are assigned to the Web Help book template, and are used in the index.htm file.

Important: After updating the variables ensure the new values are assigned to the book template.

To Update the Variables:

  1. Open your Library using Author-it Administrator.
  2. From the main menu select Variables > Maintain Variables.
  3. Locate the variables you are using and update their values.
  4. Save the changes.
