Inserting Metadata in XHTML Files

When publishing to XHTML, the following metadata can be added to the files:

This is achieved using Author-it variables and a custom publishing template. The Author-it XML can be referenced using the object reference tags through a post publishing process to add customized functionality.

Why add metadata?

The metadata can be used by JavaScript or server side code to decide to hide or reveal, or construct additional content, based on information found in the XML, such as variable assignments, status, comments, or any other property.
