Updating Permissions for Log Files

The Live components maintain log files which record information on processes that are attempted.

The log files for the Live Editor record date and time, process source, type of message (information or error), and message details. The Editor log files are created in two formats - informational (the .alg file opens in a text editor such as Notepad) or easy view (the .xml file is opened in an easy to read format using an XML viewer).

To enable the log files to be created you need to open the folder's properties, add the user "Everyone", then give the user full permissions to the folder.

The log files are stored in the following locations:

  • \AITLive\Logs - log files for actions in the Live Editor
  • \AITLive\LogFiles - used for specific troubleshooting
  • \Author-it Software Corporation\Author-it Server Manager\LogFiles - used for specific troubleshooting
