New Licensing Model

Licensing has now been broken into three main categories providing more flexibility :

  • Base user license
  • Extended capability licenses
  • Server capability licenses

Rather than individual serial numbers, all licensing information for an organization is now contained in a single license file making installation an easier process. No more scrambling around trying to find which serial numbers belong to which user, or having to reinstall if you mistakenly allocate the wrong number to the wrong user.

Base User:

This is a concurrent usage license that is required for each logged on user. The base user license provides for the following capabilities:

  • Authoring
  • Importing
  • Content management
  • Publishing
  • Administration
  • JET Database Connector

The windows client software can be installed on any number of workstations. When users login using either the Windows or Web software, they use a base license.

Extended User Licence:

These licenses provide for specific additional capability required only for specific users. All users using an extended user license will also occupy a base user license. A separate extended user license is required for the following capabilities:

  • Project management
  • Localization management
  • Offline authoring

Server Licences:

This provides licenses for server based capability that apply to all users of the system. Each user will still need a base user license, and in some cases extended user licenses to access some of this capability. A separate server license is required for each of the following capabilities.

  • SQL Server Connector - A license is required for each main library installed on SQL Server.
  • Locale Libraries - A license is required for each locale library. A separate SQL Server Connector license is not required.
  • Authoring Memory Indexing Server - A license is required for each server. This license enables all suggestion and fuzzy matching functionality in the client.
  • Author-it Live Editor - A license is required for each server that it is running on. Each user logging in will also require a base user license.
  • Author-it Publishing Server - A license is required for each server that it is running on. Each server can run any number concurrent publishing jobs (user configurable). A base user license is also used for each publishing job while it is being processed.
  • Author-it Integration Server - A license is required for each server that it is running on. Depending on capabilities accessed, it will also use a base license and possibly extended licenses.
