Showing an Object's Relationships

Each object can have numerous relationships to other objects in the library. This includes everything used to create an object, or everything the object is included in. For example, when you display the relationships for a topic you will be able to see the styles, template, media object, graphics, index links, etc, used in that topic. You will also be able to see the relationships the topic has with other objects, such as books that in include the topic, other topics (when the topic was embedded), and any links that link back to that topic.

Object Relationships

Sometimes when you are working with an object it is useful to see the relationships it has with other objects. You can do this by displaying the Show Relationships window. The window is divided into two groups showing objects used by the selected object, and objects using the selected object.

To Show an Object's Relationship List:

  1. In the Object List or Book Contents, select the object whose relationships you want to view.
  2. Right-click on the object, then choose Show Relationships from the shortcut menu.

The Show Relationships window opens, listing the related objects.

    Show Relationships

In addition to viewing the relationships for the selected object, the list can also be used to:

  • Display the relationships for any other object in the list. Once you have opened the Show Relationships window you can view relationships for any of the objects in the list, and then continue to display new relationships from each list you open. To open the Show Relationships window for objects in the list double-click on on the object, or right-click and choose Show Relationships. When multiple lists have been opened use the back and forward buttons to switch between them.
  • Open objects from the list. When you right-click on an object the shortcut menu includes options to open the object in the same Author-it Live window or open the object in a new Author-it Live window.
