Embed a Topic

Embedded topics are simply topics that are placed inside other topic objects or "host Topics." They are quite useful if your content contains paragraphs of standard or boilerplate text used throughout your documentation. Examples include legal disclaimers, notes or warnings, and sets of steps that are commonly used together in procedures.

When you update an embedded topic the text is updated everywhere the topic is used.

To Embed a Topic:

If your X5000 User Guide is not already open, locate it within the X5000 folder and open it.

  1. Select and open the X5000 Limitation of Liability Extension topic.
  2. Put your cursor in the first paragraph, and press Enter to create a new paragraph.
  3. Select the Common Content > Legal folder and locate the Standard Limitation of Liability topic. Drag and drop the topic into the X5000 Limitation of Liability Extension topic, dropping the topic on the empty paragraph.
