Reuse Existing Topics

When you start a new project, you'll usually have some topics already written which you can simply reuse. If they're relevant to more than one Book, you'll probably want to store them in a Shared or Common folder. When you're working in a team with Author-it, everyone can see them easily (depending on their security permissions, of course).

To Add Existing Topics:

If your X5000 User Guide is not already open, locate it within the X5000 folder and open it.

  1. Select the Common Content > Legal folder. Author-it displays all the objects stored in this folder in the Object List. We have content that is common to all the ACME Teleportation products -- let's use them!
  2. Adding these topics to your Book is as simple as dragging and dropping. You may need to move your Book window slightly, so that you can see the folder contents.
  3. Hold down the Shift or CTRL keys while selecting both the Warnings and X5000 Limitation of Liability Extension topics, then drag and drop these into your Book's Contents.
  4. Use the up and down arrows Move Up button Move down button to move the topics under the Troubleshooting section.

You'll notice that the Object List still contains the Warnings and X5000 Limitation of Liability Extension -- you can reuse the same topic over and over, and they are all actually the same object, not just disconnected copies. If you change one instance of the topic, they all change at once.

  5. Choose the Save Book Save Book button on the Book Contents toolbar to save these changes.
