Author-it 5.3.48.4159 (29 June 2009)

Upgrading to Author-it 5.3.48.4159

This is a full installation and update package. Provided your current version of Author-it is 5.2.71.2359 or earlier you can install this update without needing to uninstall your current version first.

Note: When installing you select how Author-it will be installed for people using this computer: either Everyone to make Author-it available for all users with access to the computer or Just me to make the installation of Author-it available to you only. If running this update over an existing installation, you need to choose the same option as initially selected to ensure all components are updated correctly. If you can't remember the option you chose, uninstall Author-it first.

  1. Ensure all users are logged out of your library, then back up all your libraries, graphics, templates, and any other supporting files before you begin. If using SQL Server you can back up your library by exporting it to JET provided the library is under 2GB, otherwise have your SQL Server administrator back it up for you.
  2. Run the Author-it Setup program to begin the installation process and follow the steps.
  3. Open your library in Author-it Administrator and follow the prompts to upgrade your library.

Detailed installation instructions, should you need them, can be found in the Knowledge Center.

The following issues have been resolved in this build:

Localization Manager

A number of improvements have been made to Localization Manager's underlying functions resulting in an increase in performance, especially for larger libraries.

  • Object mapping has been improved for localization updates where objects have been moved between libraries using the XML Export and XML Import.
  • Object locking displays correctly when objects are locked by translation jobs.
  • Target libraries on SQL Server now automatically use the correct library path. Previously, the path had to be updated manually.
  • Linked images are exported correctly with translation jobs.
  • If you change the location for creating localization updates, the update uses the new path.
  • When creating a localization update where the folder structure for the update is missing, we now attempt to create the missing structure. If we cannot (because of security) we pause and ask the user to create the folder before continuing.
  • When opening a library in the Localization Manager, the New Library tab no longer displays.
  • Variable assignments for File objects are retained when a translation job is imported.
  • The default sizes of the main localization and the translation job windows have been increased to display all fields correctly.
  • New and modified variant objects are displayed correctly in the Library Compare window when the translation job is created using either the manual option or the wizard.
  • Importing a translation job now displays an additional prompt to ensure you are selecting the correct type of import (Import or Draft) before the import is completed.
  • When creating translation jobs created using the wizard there is a requirement that you have already created at least one update. The wizard will now only create a translation jobs for a library if it has had its first update.

Editor

  • In the Hypertext Link object Properties window, all appropriate fields are now enabled after removing or changing the template.
  • When embedding topics, an inactive topic can be successfully embedded inside a host topic. This behavior was removed in the 5.1 release, but has now been reinstated.
  • Selecting the "Show Log" menu option now works even if the Object Property dialog is minimized.
  • The A4 or Letter paper selection in the printer setup is recognized when printing a topic or the book contents pane from the editor.
  • Accidentally opening an object twice by quadruple clicking (double-clicking in quick succession) no longer occurs.
  • The File object's Description property (on the General tab) is now populated when a File object is created directly in a folder (rather than in a topic). The description is created from the image's file name.
  • You can use the Author > Create > File option from the main window to create a File object and insert it at the cursor position in an open topic.
  • Using the "Based On" field in the Quick Search no longer throws an error.
  • When using the Search, you can begin a search string with hyphen. However, there are different behaviors depending on how the string is written. For example, if you type the search string -help in the "Containing text" field then topics that do not include the word help will be returned, because the hyphen is treated as the boolean search option NOT. If you enclose the search string in quote marks "-help" then topics that include any instances of text -help will be returned.
  • When opening a library on a computer running Microsoft Vista, Author-it checks the status of the User Account Control settings (the settings "protect" content in the Program Files folder). If the UAC setting is on when opening a Jet library located in the Program Files folder, Author-it displays a warning message prompting you to turn UAC off or change the location of the library.
  • Improvements have been made to Indexes and Index Entries. New Index Entries are created and saved at the correct level in the Index object.
  • When using Find and Replace in the Editor or in the Library Explorer, the Replace and Replace All options have been corrected. In addition, the Match case on Find option is applied correctly when finding text in the topic.
  • When duplicating a variant object that also has variable assignments, the variable assignments are copied correctly to the new object.
  • Improvements have been made when you publishing a book with variants. Previously, when you filtered a book and published from the Editor, the default filter selection would be displayed in the Select Variant Criteria publishing window. Now, when you select filter criteria in the Editor your current selection is used in the Select Variant Criteria publishing window.
  • When an object is converted into a variant its variable assignments are preserved correctly.
  • When the variant criteria filtering does not match the criteria assigned to any of the objects the primary or standard objects are correctly used in the published output.

Importing and Exporting

  • When importing a document, if you reach the end of the wizard's steps, then select "Back" and re-import your document, the content can be imported again without causing errors.
  • A message referring to the MIF Import Filter license is now only displayed if you are importing a FrameMaker file and your library does not have a MIF Import Filter license.

Administrator

  • When assigning release states, any release states that do not have permissions assigned are no longer displayed in the Editor.
  • When viewing the external files report for localization target libraries, the correct library path for linked files is used.
  • When you create a new Group Account, if that group already exists in the library then an error message is displayed.

Publishing

  • Publishing to XML now includes File objects referenced by variables.
  • The Publishing Profile's "Zip to an existing file" option correctly overwrites existing files with the same name.
  • When publishing to HTML, related groups are now given an additional class name to identify their location. This enables groups to be identified in the CSS file.
  • Nested embedded topics resolve correctly when publishing to MS Word.
  • The Theme settings in the Publishing Profile are now saved and applied correctly when a book is published.

Offline Libraries

  • Offline libraries are correctly excluding content that was not selected for check out or made available offline, this ensures content that is not needed in the offline library is not added. In addition, linked images created in the offline library are correctly displayed in the File object preview pane.
  • Time settings for automatically "checking in" or "checking out" libraries are now saved in the offline library properties.
  • New versions of objects created in an offline library are checked in to the main library with the correct object code and version status.
  • The offline icon applied to child folders when using the "Make Descendants available offline option" is now displayed without having to refresh library folders pane.

Upgrading Libraries

  • Styles are retained correctly on text in merged table cells after upgrading the library to a new build.
  • The "import release state" for translation jobs is retained after upgrading a library.
