Using the Measurement Selector to Resize Columns and Rows

The Layout tab includes a measurement selector for setting the exact height of a row or width of a column. You can apply the settings to an individual row or column, or you can multi-select rows or columns to quickly apply uniform sizing to a table. Measurement units in the selectors are based on the "measurement" setting in the User Option window's General tab.

The Layout tab is displayed when you click inside any table cell.

To Resize a Column to an Exact Width:

  1. Click in a table cell, or select multiple columns.
  2. Go to Layout > Cell Size > Width and:
    • Type the new measurement in the Width selector and press the ENTER key to apply the measurement

    -or-

    • Use the arrow buttons to select the new measurement. The column resizes after each unit change.
  3. Save the changes to the topic.

To Resize a Row to an Exact Height:

  1. Click in a table cell, or select multiple rows.
  2. Go to Layout > Cell Size > Height and:
    • Type the new measurement in the Height selector and press the ENTER key to apply the measurement

    -or-

    • Use the arrow buttons to select the new measurement. The row resizes after each unit change.
  3. Save the changes to the topic.

Note: Changing the row height has no effect on the WinHelp or HTML outputs. To increase the row height in these formats, you should instead modify the spacing of the styles used in the table.
