Backup Backup Backup!

We strongly recommend backing up your Author-it files before commencing the upgrade or installing Author-it 5:

1. Ensure all users are logged out of your library
2. Backup your shared data including all your libraries, graphics, templates, and any other supporting files before you begin.

When you attempt to upgrade a Version 4 Jet library database so you can work with it using Author-it 5, a copy of that earlier database is automatically created before the upgrade. Other than this, Author-it has no internal backup procedures.

If you are using SQL Server get your database administrator to backup the SQL database before you begin. Alternatively use the Export to Jet function in Author-it Administrator.

Note: Author-it 5 can run alongside Version 4, however once a library has been upgraded to 5, it cannot be opened in Version 4. It's important that both editions are installed in separate folders and that they point to their own data.
